Community Trading Suggestions

I know there are trading plans in the works but I thought these ideas could be implemented in the meantime.

Currently, the search function isn’t really helpful because you can’t tell if the card is wanted or offered when it highlights the text in the postings.

So, I present an initial idea for your next trading post(s) to make it easier for others to find the cards you are offering. If you have an idea to make this work even better, please feel free to reply to this post!

When listing your trades, I propose two ideas to make searching for cards easier:

Idea 1
—-
Break your asks into separate posts for each rarity. Have one post for 3 diamond, one post for 4 diamond, and a third post for 1 star. (If you need 1 or 2 diamond you could post those also.)

Idea 2
—-
Then within those posts, replace all spaces with a hyphen (this helps searches) and include at the end of each card name the following:

#W for cards you want to get
#H for cards you have to trade

As an example, I want an Aerodactyl ex. I would list it like this at the beginning of the post:

A1a-84-Aerodactyl-ex#W

And then the card I have to trade would be listed like this after all the want cards are listed:

A2a-57-Probopass-ex#H

Now, let’s say you need a Probopass ex. When you search “A2a-57-Probopass-ex#H” my card would show in your search and you could then click the post to see if you have a card I need.

Likewise, say you only have one 4 diamond card you can trade, an Aerodactyl ex in this case, you could search “A1a-84-Aerodactyl-ex#W” and see my post where you could then peruse my offerings and see if I have something you want.

If this is something that other users find useful, I would propose that the collection site format the names of the cards with whatever final version of this naming system is and break the lists into collections by rarity rather than decks.

Just some quick thoughts :slightly_smiling_face:

BLUF: I think Idea 1 offers a better user experience than idea 2. Ultimately if we are reliant on an text export rather than a lookup back to a user profile then it’s never going fix the problem.

Without spaces, Idea 2 will make posting less readable for most general people, and will force everyone into using an advanced search when the intention is meant to be a quick post and read. Even with the new name convention, the search would fall short where posts that use a strikeout formatting will still generate a hit, or the subsequent replies that may, or may not be useful. You will still be back at square one having to read through the posts. I think at our current maturity, idea two would be over engineering a solution.

For idea 1, I think if we can tag the posts with the card rariry/pack/language looking for/etc could be useful.

My tip for searching is to use just the text of the identifier pack-card number. You still have to check the post for wether is looking for or traded for (most other sites use LF or TF), but because of the pace of the site, most posts appears to get stale quite quickly. This can be observed by the number of reposts. This links back to the issue regarding post closures. But the reality is you only really need to check the most active posts within the last few days in my opinion.
